The Macallan single malt whiskey distillery was officially founded in 1824, but farmers had been making whiskey in the area for centuries. The Macallan is one of the world’s top selling brands of Scotch whisky, usually ranked within the top 3 global whiskeys in terms of sales and has been referred to as “the Rolls Royce of single malts.” #MACALLAN2 is a bottle of 40 Year Old Macallan Single Malt Scotch. Left undisturbed in sherry seasoned oak casks for four decades, #MACALLAN2 is one of 500 bottles released in 2016.
“The 40-year-old is a dark, autumnal russet in color, with rich flavors of dried fruit, ginger, chocolate, cinnamon, and gentle wood smoke—all amplified by decades of slumber in European oak sherry casks.”— Robb Report
A barley farmer named Alexander Reid founds The Macallan Distillery.
Reid’s lease is taken over by James Stuart, who rebuilds the facility.
A successful businessman with experience in spirits acquires Macallan from Stuart.
Macallan continues their expansion, adding additional stills to help keep up with demand.
#MACALLAN2 begins its maturation process.
The Macallan Master Whisky Maker and his team select 27 sherry seasoned oak casks from nine different years, combining the whisky into nine ‘marrying’ casks — later bottling as a part of The Macallan 30 Years Old Sherry Oak release. Instead of including a tenth cask (the source of #MACALLAN2), the decision was made to set it aside for an even longer maturation period.
After reviewing the tenth cask containing #MACALLAN2, the decision is once again made to allow the whisky to further mature.
#MACALLAN2 is finally bottled as 1 of 500 bottles produced for the Sherry Oak 40 Years Old 2016 Release.
A new £140 distillery is completed featuring a “distinctive subterranean design.”
Rally enters into an agreement to acquire #MACALLAN2 and offer it on the Rally platform.
The Macallan was founded in 1824 in Scotland as one of the country’s first legally licensed distillers. Known for having especially small stills, Macallan is one of Scotland’s top three producers of single malt whisky and is renowned throughout the world for their high-quality scotch. While most whisky is dyed, Macallan is one of the few whiskey producers that doesn’t use caramel coloring. According to the Macallan website, the Sherry Oak 40 Years Old 2016 Release exhibits an “Autumn Russet” color, a smoky scent accented with ginger, sherry, citrus, cinnamon, chocolate, and wood smoke. It is explained by Macallan to be “wonderfully smooth” on the palate with a “long, rich and warming” finish.Invest Now
