A Hobbit for Every Taste

For better or worse, fans did eventually get to see a darker Hobbit, revised and expanded to connect overtly with LOTR in Peter Jackson’s film trilogy. Fortunately for those who prefer the original whimsical, contained story, the current standard book text remains so. Fans can also stream the lovely 1977 Rankin/Bass animated made-for-TV movie on most major platforms. And if you’re really hankering to experience the unfiltered original text of the story, HarperCollins released a “Facsimile First Edition” of The Hobbit in 2016 to replicate those precious 1,500 copies that lit up the imaginations of countless children and adults over 80 years ago.
