Original and highly graded copies of comics featuring the first appearance of popular superheroes and the first issues in long-running series have become investments worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. A CGC (Certified Guaranty Company) 1.5 copy of a 1940 DC Comics Batman #1 sold for $4,600 in 2003 and has since appreciated over 1,585%, with a comparable copy selling for $78,000 in 2020.
